Meet the Team
Mike Cowley B.Sc. MRICS (Chartered Surveyor)RICS Registered Valuer – Director
I was born in Sheffield and educated at King Edward VII School, Sheffield and following A- levels and a chance visit to the careers office in Sheffield I ended up studying for a part-time B.Sc. degree in urban estate Surveying at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham which was a five-year degree course studied one day a week.
As the name suggests, this was back in the day before ‘Trent Poly’ became Nottingham Trent University and I have recently celebrated 38 years in the profession.
I am married with two married daughters and two wonderful granddaughters to keep me on my toes. It is just as well that I have embarked on yet another diet and fitness routine to try to keep up with them.
Apart from my family, my pleasures in life are spending a couple of hours in my shed trying to ‘engineer solutions’, trying to get more or less half reasonable at riding a speedway bike and going on long walks with our Cavalier King Charles pup, Bentley.
In my professional life, I have always tried to do my best for Clients. We try to do things better, promptly, give great Value and make everybody feel Valued. We hope that the work that we produce for Clients is what they always hoped and believed that they had the right to receive from a firm of Surveyors.
I’m very proud of my colleagues. I believe we do a great job in our own way but most of all we don’t take ourselves too seriously and try to enjoy our work and impart that enjoyment to everybody around us.
Alex Moore B.Sc. (Hons.) M.Sc. MRICS (Chartered Surveyor)RICS Registered Valuer - Director
I’m the Principal Surveyor at Ashmore Surveyors and I grew up in Hinckley, the youngest of 5 siblings and step-siblings. I completed my GCSE’s and A-levels at John Cleveland College before moving to Stoke-on-Trent to study Chemistry and Maths for my Undergraduate Degree at Keele University.
Since leaving University, I have completed a Masters Degree in Surveying (Real Estate) from Northumbria University and I am now a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer.
I grew up with property in the blood as it were as my parents have owned an Estate Agency since I was 14 years old, sparking my interest in housing and I’ve recently bought my second house with my wife. We share our house with our cat and springer spaniel.
When I’m not working or walking my dog, I have an interest in sports, mainly football but I’m also a big fan of American sports, both basketball and NFL. I enjoy watching NFL games in Wembley and have been to watch NBA games when they are hosted in London, along with watching as many Leicester City matches as possible.
I enjoy working at Ashmore Surveyors, it has been great working alongside Mike, both in the office and out on Surveys and the working atmosphere at Ashmore Surveyors is always a lot of fun. We all work hard and are a good team, but we can also have a laugh, which makes the days more enjoyable.
Alison Merry – Practice Manager
I’m Alison Merry, the Practice Manager here at Ashmore Surveyors
I’ve been with the Company since September 2020 and whilst it has been a step out of my ‘Comfort Zone’, I’ve adapted pretty well to the different demands and pressures of the Property Industry.
Originally, I studied Accounts and Finance at Nottingham Trent University before moving back to Warwickshire and taking a summer job at an Aluminium Ingot Manufacturer, and I enjoyed it so much I stayed there for 22 years, growing and adapting throughout the years to the ever changing needs of the Metals Industry and the expanding company.
A change in circumstances meant a shift in direction and I find myself here at Ashmore Surveyors at a time with a new set of challenges and pressures which I am trying to juggle with keeping our lively Surveyors under control, or at least as best I can.
I’m here to try and guide and advise you as best I can in respect of all of your Valuation and Surveying requirements.
Lois Duffy B.A. (Hons) - Assistant Surveyor and Valuer
My name is Lois Duffy, and I am the Assistant Surveyor here at Ashmore Surveyors.
I have recently completed an undergraduate Business and Management degree at De Montfort University where I was awarded first-class honours.
I have always had a love for property which I believe was sparked from moving around a lot as child. I am one of 7 children, and I am the oldest.
Outside of work I like to keep fit and challenge myself with fitness activities, the most recent of which consisted of me climbing Snowden at night to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Ward at Heartlands Hospital.
When the opportunity arose at Ashmore Surveyors, I knew I was ready for a new and exciting challenge which would push me out of my comfort zone. I am now in the process of transferring my degree to a Master’s Degree in Surveying (Real Estate) which will enable me to later become a Chartered Surveyor.
Although I have not been with the firm for long, I have gained a lot of experience from Mike and Alex, both on the job and in the office and my knowledge has significantly increased. I am excited to see my knowledge grow further and gain credible expertise in this field.
